Soil sample postal instructions

Thank you for your participation in the Collective Earth Story project. Every voice counts in fighting climate change, so thank you for sharing your story.

Before submitting your soil sample, please make sure you have the following:

  1. Soil sample collection kit number
  2. Soil sample postal tracking number
  3. Copy of completed soil import licence (DEFRA)
  4. Photograph of soil collection location
  5. Soil collection geographical location coordinates
  6. Soil sample collection story audio file

Please upload an audio file (mp3) of your ‘earth connection’ story, the photograph of the soil collection location and find instructions for sending your soil sample below.

Soil collection kit instructions

For the CABI laboratory to receive and process your soil sample, the following packaging instructions must be followed to ensure delivery. Once you have packaged your soil sample, please complete the soil collection submission online form.

Soil sample packaging instructions

  1. Make a note of the soil sample collection kit ID number to include in the online submission form.
  2. Complete the soil submission form included in the kit.
  3. Complete the label on the sample container.
* Write forms and labels in pencil as this is more durable than ink.
  4. The soil sample container should be double bagged in plastic bags provided and tightly secured to prevent leakage.
  5. For soil samples from outside the EU, please contact [email protected] to get a letter of authority.
  6. Include two copies of the ‘Letter of Authority’. Place one inside the package and affix one to the exterior of the package to clear customs.
  7. Pack the soil sample container carefully in the outer crush-proof cardboard box.

These include : Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Please ensure you have followed the kit assembly instructions correctly and enter the following information into the submission form.

  1. Soil Collection Kit ID number
  2. Soil Collection postal tracking number
  3. Name
  4. Email address
  5. Telephone number (in case of issue with soil sample)
  6. Soil Collection location
  7. Country name
  8. Region
  9. Nearest town
  10. Geographical coordinates (longitude and latitude)
